Welcome to the first edition of Purple Night Lights, a place to spotlight writers of erotica. We will have intimate conversations about sex, love and writing about it. Today our guest is T. L. Hayes, author of ‘Kinky Tales Volume One’. (Read my review here) Let’s do this.

 

Q&A:

LL: How did you get into writing erotic tales?

TL: I became inspired to write at an early age. All of my teenage diaries and journals were mostly stories and poems about boys. The stories turned into short reads as I got older then I realized that if I can put so much passion and creativity into my writing, I can definitely write a book.

LL: Do you put a little of yourself in your characters?

TL: I sure do. I often use my sassy, feisty and free-spirted personality in each character. It’s fun and it allows me to somehow live bi-curiously through each character. I consider the characters to be my alter egos.  

LL: How do you do your research?

TL: I have quite a bit of sexual knowledge from some of my own experiences. I add a sexy, over exaggerated twist to the sex scenes which allows me to be more creative in my erotic writing. I also use google faithfully.

LL: Tell us about your book, ‘Kinky Tales’ and who or what inspired you to write it?

TL: Kinky Tales Volume 1 is about twelve sexy, professional and independent women with different sexual tastes and personalities. These women will settle for nothing less than mind blowing sex and will get it whenever and wherever they can. What inspired me to write these stories is that a lot of women are closet freaks and are often too shy or ashamed to let go of their sexual inhibitions. The stories in my book will definitely bring out the freak in you.

LL: Do you ever get negative or unwanted attention because of the genre you have chosen? How do you deal with it?

TL: Yes, I do all the time. I generally do not feed into the negativity. I keep it strictly professional, classy and I command respect. Once people see how you carry yourself, they treat you accordingly. Erotica is not everybody’s cup of tea. People are going to say and think whatever they want, it comes with the territory.

LL: Who is the one writer that has influenced you the most in the genre and what is your favorite work by them?

TL: Sister Souljah, The Coldest Winter Ever. Although she may not be considered an erotica author, she is my all-time favorite.

LL: What is your take on how many sex scenes to include in a novel? Can there be too many?

TL: You could never have too many sex scenes in a book when it comes to erotica. The more sex the better. I say just make each sex scene different, make it very steamy and entertaining.  Sex sells!

LL: What is your ultimate goal for your writing?

TL: My ultimate goal is to push my writing all over the world. I am determined to get my work into the hands of the big dogs! I want to be the next featured author in Oprah’s Book Club. I want to be able to knock on her door and say, “Here is a copy of my new book Miss Winfrey, have a wonderful day.” It warms my heart to know that people enjoy my work so I must be doing something right.

LL: What is your favorite sex position to write about in your novels?

TL: My favorite sex position to write about is doggy style and reverse cowgirl.

LL: Are you a fan of toys?

TL: Yes, I am a fan of toys. They do the trick when you need a quick fix but don’t have immediate access to your man. I also love to introduce toys into the bedroom. It allows you to become sexually comfortable with your mate as you explore new things together.

LL: What is your favorite sub-genre of erotica to read?

TL: BDSM is one of my kinky favorites.

LL: When does the kink go too far in your opinion?

TL: In my opinion the kink goes too far when it gets to the point that your life is in danger.

LL: Describe your writing process?

TL: I write my sex scenes first. Doing so gives me a platform for the story. It plants an idea in my head of how the story will go then I build around it.

LL: What’s next on the agenda for you?

TL: I am in the process of getting Kinky Tales Volume 2 ready for release. I am also working on some other secret mind-blowing projects so stay tuned, I’m just getting started.

LL: Have you ever been so turned on by a scene you are writing that you needed to stop writing to take care of business?

TL: I haven’t gotten to the point that I had to push the computer to the side and grab the silver bullet but I get pretty damn close to it. However, I do take a little break if I get too hot and bothered.

unique and talented gift of writing in her late teenage years, when she became a passionate and creative writer of all things erotica.
