For this week’s LoveRotica Book Challenge, I selected the Chick Lit sub-genre. My choice was a new release from new author Joslyn Westbrook called The 52 Week Chronicles. It was a treat reading this one.
Here’s what I think:
So, can I just say I loved this light-hearted book? It had me giggling and made me feel like a silly school girl again. Something I truly needed at this point in my life.
Alright, back to the review… Penelope Monroe is the Carrie Bradshaw of food critics in NYC! If she loves your food, you are a major success, but if she doesn’t, you turn into Jonathan Knight. Ok that was a little harsh, but that is exactly what happened to 5 star chef Jonathan Knight when Miss Monroe visited his acclaimed restaurant Knight and Daze.(Clever name play, huh?)
Jonathan’s already dwindling business plummeted after a bad review from Penelope, causing him to HATE her. Flash forward a few months and we find Penelope, who hates Mondays, getting her heart broken by her stupid, cheating boyfriend. He’s her boss and she catches him screwing a co-worker ON HER DESK! Then has the nerve to fire her. Who does that? That’s right, he’s a tool.
Being fired leads Penelope to finding her true self. Her roommate and BFF Sebastian hires her as a restaurant consultant. Her first assignment – to go undercover and help the very man whose life she destroyed with the stroke of her keyboard, by saving his restaurant.
This is where things get good. When Jonathan and Penelope meet, sparks fly in a good way. She lies about her identity, calling herself Kennedy Prescott. Jonathan and Kennedy fall hard and fast for each other as she helps him re-discover his true passion.
I won’t give away the entire story because I want to to enjoy it like you would a nice juicy Backyard Burger.(you’ll get the reference once you read the book). Let’s just say it left me with a big old smile on my face and “the look of pure eye-rolling gratification…as though I just got laid.”(another book reference)
If you’re looking for a carefree, well written book that brings nostalgia for SITC then this book is for you. I may even start enjoying Mondays after all. Kudos to the writer and cheers to you and yours! This one gets 5 kisses
